Kabali - Box Office Collection

Despite mixed reactions from the general audience, Kabali will be remembered for a long time to come for its huge pre-release buzz it created. As there was no social media during Rajinikanth’s prime, Kabali is a great example of the potential hype a Rajinikanth film, or any big Tamil film in general, could create in the modern film industry.
Kabali released at a time where people began to think Rajinikanth’s long Kollywood career was over. After films like Kochadaiyaan and Lingaa, Rajinikanth was supposedly slowly out of the game. Furthermore, people underestimating his stardom beleived Rajini’s last two industry hits (Sivaji and Enthiran) proved to be huge because of Shankar, taking away the credit from Rajini. Kabali finally gave a fitting answer grossing nearly 299 crore worldwide from mixed word of mouth.

Box Office Notes

  • Kabali crossed Enthiran’s worldwide gross (296 Cr) to become the highest grossing Tamil film of all time.
  • The film started the 200 crore club in Tamil Cinema as the Tamil version itself grossed over 200 crores.
  • Kabali closed at 74 crores in Tamil Nadu becoming the third highest grossing movie in the state after Enthiran and Theri.
  • After finishing its run, Kabali set a record in Chennai City and the Chengalpet circuit.
  • In Andhra/TG, Kabali grossed 36 crores finishing third to Enthiran and Shankar’s “I”
  • In Karnataka, Kabali became the highest grossing Tamil film
  • Rajinikanth’s film grossed 33.5 crores in it’s Hindi Version which is also a record for a Tamil film. It fell behind Baahubali when considering all South Indian films.
  • Grossed 16 crores in Kerala falling behind “I”, and Theri.
  • For a Tamil film, Kabali set records in all overseas territories except Canada, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Europe.
  • First South Indian film to gross 100 crores outside of India.
  • 10th highest grossing Indian film in North America.
  • 9th highest grossing Indian film in the Middle East.
  • 2nd highest grossing Indian film Malaysia.
  • 10th highest grossing Indian film overseas.
  • First Tamil film to have a distributor share of 50 crores from the overseas market.
  • Held a worldwide loss of 10.5 crores to individual distributors.

Kabali - Positive BO Prediction

With Kabali creating waves all over the internet the business involved with the film became huge. The movie is aiming for a pre-release business over 150 crores from distribution rights alone. Once the film get’s good word of mouth from critics and audiences alike, the movie will aim for a worldwie gross of 365 crores worldwide which will break Enthiran’s record by a huge margin. This will make it a great venture for distributors and exhibitors as well as the break-even gross is estimated to be near 265 crores. Share wise the film will collect over 200 crores with 45-50 crores coming from the overseas market itself. This is all only achievable of course if the film is actually good product made by the movie makers. To the right you will see the amount fo money Kabali is expected to make in invidudual territories with word of mouth similar to Enthiran.
