Sarkar - Box Office Collection

Sarkar finished with a worldwide gross over 250 crores. It became Vijay's highest grosser surpassing Mersal with a small margin. The political thriller earned 179.70 crores domestically and USD$9.78M (71.02cr) abroad. Sarkar was declared an "Above Average" for its minor losses it would have caused for its distributors if P&P costs were considered.

After the big Diwali weekend, Sarkar dropped at the box office due to its mixed response from audiences. The movie gave minor losses to its distributors in Tamil Nadu and the overseas market. Sarkar underperformed in Kerala as well earning poor numbers for a Vijay film. Since Sarkar was released on a comission basis in Kerala, no big losses were noticeable. Fortunately, Sarkar left distributors in green in all other territories.

In the overseas market, Sarkar has fetched profits for a few while disappointing the majority. Sarkar is declared a "Blockbuster" in the Middle East and broke-even for distributors in Sri Lanka and Europe. Sarkar faced losses in almost all other overseas territories though.

Sarkar - First Weekend Collection

Sarkar had a massive opening weekend. It grossed over 200 crores worldwide. The political thriller grossed 140.80 crores in India and USD$8.43M (61.32cr) abroad.

Over its 6-day Diwali weekend, Sarkar earned a massive 96 crores in Tamil Nadu with a distributor share of 55.50 crores. It recovered nearly 70% of its investment in the state already. After a sharp drop on Monday though, there is uncertainty in the trade of whether or not the film will break-even in Tamil Nadu.

Sarkar's grand start brought in profits to many investors outside its home state. The Telugu version is already in profit. With theatrical rights priced at 7.50 crores, the movie earned a distributor share of 7.55 crores in just 6 days. Sarkar reflected the same success in North India. The following week will have Sarkar bring in profits for distributors in Karnataka too. In the overseas market, Sarkar is expected to surpass Mersal to become actor Vijay's highest grosser abroad. Contrastingly, Sarkar is projected to flop in Kerala. The mixed reviews affected the movie's performance dramatically after its 1st day.

Mixed public word of mouth is worrying the trade and the next week will be crucial for Sarkar in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and certain other overseas territories.
