The movie crossed 100 crores after it's second weekend (10 days) making it the 2nd fastest 100 crore grosser at the time after Enthiran beating Thuppakki's record. The movie finished most of it's business in India excluding Tamil Nadu by then. Despite having a short run, the movie became profitable in it's Hindi version. The movie had a short run in it's Telugu version too but couldn't became profitable. An interesting factor in Vishwaroopam's performance was that the number of shows dropped by 55% from week 1 to week 2. This is because of the number of movies that released along side Vishwaroopam. If it wasn't for those movies, Vishwaroopam would have kept 200 of it's shows in the 2nd week and would have held a bigger collection in Tamil Nadu. But even with all that, the movie kept a strong performance. The delay factored into it's collections too. The movie had a chance of collecting an extra 12 crores or more if it's wasn't for the delay. Malaysia, the biggest market for Tamil films outside of India, witnessed a delay along with protests. This later on resulted the movie to gross a disappointing 2 crores there. The movie had a good chance to cross 10 crores in Malaysia if it wasn't the controversy. The movie ended up crossing 107 crores at the worldwide box office. Despite having a good performance and putting up good figures, the movie suffered a 8.75 crore loss with 8 crores from Tamil Nadu. Overall the movie was an average earner for distributors.
